Performance Standards

CCJV believes that winning happens when everyone is clear about, and lives up to expectations. And by “everyone” we mean players, parents and the club itself. The following is a simple list of expectations (we like to think of them as “Performance Standards”) to which we are committed as an organization:

Players; be humble, be coachable

Club volleyball is a schedule priority.

  • School commitments come first, but by joining CCJV, you’re making the additional commitment to a high level of competition and everything that goes with it.
  • When a conflict arises, (whether it be with practice or a scheduled tournament) players are expected to communicate the conflict clearly and in advance to their coach. Missing practices or tournaments unnecessarily places a burden on your coach and teammates and it communicates lack of commitment to team success.
  • EARLY IS ON TIME. ON TIME IS LATE. Posted practice times are start times, NOT arrival times. If practice is scheduled to start at 7, players are expected to be ready at 7.

Playing time is an earned privilege.

  • Playing time is determined by the combination of attendance, attitude, effort, progress, performance, potential and the team’s needs.
  • Playing time is a coaching decision and not up for debate
  • If an athlete has a question or concern regarding their playing time, they are to talk directly to their coach at least 24 hours before any competition and before parents are brought into the conversation.
  • Starting spots are earned weekly. None are guaranteed.
  • CCJV does not guarantee equal playing time.
  • It is expected that players on the bench show consistent, vocal and enthusiastic support for their teammates on the floor.

CCJV players represent their parents, team and club as a whole…SO REPRESENT WELL!

  • Your words and actions during both practice and competition are to reflect the highest moral and ethical standards.
  • Be respectful in both words and tone.
  • Cheer for your team not against the other team.
  • Do not provide, use or condone the use of tobacco, alcohol or illicit drugs. Do not remain in any location where this kind of activity is taking place.
  • Always leave a practice or competition facility cleaner than when you arrived.
  • Be your teammate’s biggest fan.

Parents; be flexible, be positive

  • Kids delivered to practice and games on time. (advance notice if there’s a problem) To let the coaches coach and the players play (practice and games)
  • Any disagreement regarding playing time will be handled either before or after a practice or competition and only after the player has had a direct conversation with her coach.
  • Parents are only allowed to talk/criticize their own kids, and they’re to do so at the appropriate time; i.e. in private away from other players and coaches.
  • Payment of club fees will be prompt and any difficulties with payment will be communicated to club leadership in a timely fashion. Failure to communicate proactively with club leadership could affect playing time for your daughter.
  • If a player has to miss a practice, it is expected that parents will attempt to schedule make up practice time with other teams in the club.
  • Every household will share in the organizational load of their team.

CCJV; be consistent, be accessible

  • Timely and practical communication (coach-to-player, coach-to-parent, club-to-parent)
  • Regular Schedule of “Team Owner Meetings;” for directors and any interested parents.
  • Regular schedule of mandatory parent informational meetings.
  • Timely and clear cost projections.
  • Strict accounting standards upheld.
  • A comprehensive development plan for both players and coaches that encourages consistent and ongoing skill development.
